At Omni, we’re building a platform that gives independent drivers the freedom to manage their own business while providing riders with a trusted, safe experience. Before accessing ride requests on the Omni platform, all drivers must pass a background check. We understand that this extra step may feel like a delay, but it’s an essential part of creating a safe and dependable environment for everyone involved.
Why is a background check required?
Omni is committed to safety. Background checks help ensure that drivers using the Omni platform have a clean driving history and no recent criminal offenses that could put passengers at risk. Riders often trust drivers with personal safety and their transportation — this is a responsibility we take seriously. While Omni doesn’t operate as a rideshare company and does not take a commission from fares, we still maintain safety standards for all users of our tools.
What does the background check include?
We use a third-party provider to perform a comprehensive background check that may include:
Identity verification (e.g., Social Security number validation)
Criminal record check (national, state, and local)
Sex offender registry check
Driving history
Watchlist screening (if applicable)
The process is fully compliant with applicable federal and state laws and helps us evaluate eligibility based on a fair and consistent review.
What may disqualify me from using Omni?
Each case is reviewed individually and must meet basic safety criteria. Examples of disqualifying issues may include:
Criminal History:
Convictions for violent crimes, sexual offenses, or terrorism-related charges at any point in time.
Felony or violent misdemeanor convictions within the past 7 years.
Active listings on any sex offender registry or watchlists.
Pending charges for serious offenses.
Driving History:
No active driver’s license or license with disqualifying restrictions.
Driving-related convictions such as reckless driving, street racing, or DUI/DWI in the past 7 years.
Driving on a suspended or revoked license within the past 3 years.
Excessive traffic violations or at-fault accidents (3 or more in the last 3 years).
Distracted driving or mobile phone violations (no more than 1 in the last 3 years).
If any of these conditions apply, we recommend waiting to apply until your record aligns with these requirements.
Note: Background check results vary by state and city based on local regulations. We do not accept background checks conducted for other services.
How much does the background check cost?
Omni asks that drivers share the cost of the background check. We’ve found that when this process is offered for free, many people complete onboarding but never take a single ride. This results in higher costs for our platform and less opportunity for committed drivers.
The background check fee is $27.50 and is non-refundable.
By asking drivers to invest in their background check, we filter for those who are truly interested in accepting rides through the Omni platform. These savings go back into developing tools and services that benefit drivers directly. Background check fees are non-refundable.
How long does the background check take?
Most background checks are completed within 3–5 business days. However, it may take longer if you’ve lived in multiple states or jurisdictions. Delays are also more common in areas like California and Massachusetts due to longer court processing times.
Can I see my background check?
Yes. You’ll receive a copy of your report from the third-party provider when it’s completed.
What if I think there’s a mistake?
If you believe there is an error on your report, you can dispute it directly with the background check provider. Federal law gives screening companies up to 30 days to review and correct any inaccurate information. Once updated, we can proceed with your account review.
Can I submit an existing background check from another platform?
No. For consistency, safety, and compliance, Omni requires background checks to be completed through our approved provider.
Will Omni refund my fee if I fail?
No. Because the background check is conducted by a third-party and the fee covers the cost of that service, we cannot offer refunds—even if you're ineligible based on the results.
