Why OMNI Doesn’t Provide Insurance — And Why That’s a Good Thing for Drivers

Modified on Mon, May 5 at 1:03 PM

If you’ve driven for other platforms before, you’ve probably noticed that they take a significant portion of the fare from each trip — sometimes more than half. These companies often claim it’s to cover insurance and platform costs, but the reality is more complex.

At OMNI, we’ve built something different — a driver-first platform that respects your independence and doesn’t take a cut of your earnings.

OMNI is Not a Rideshare Company

Unlike traditional rideshare platforms, OMNI does not operate as a Transportation Network Company (TNC). That means:

  • We don’t employ or dispatch drivers.

  • We don’t own or operate vehicles.

  • We don’t set transportation contracts or collect fares.

Instead, OMNI is a Driver-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform — a software tool that independent drivers use to connect with passengers and earn directly. You’re in full control of how and when you drive.

Why OMNI Doesn’t Provide Insurance

Because OMNI is not a transportation provider, we’re not legally required to carry commercial insurance on behalf of drivers. This allows us to keep the platform lean, simple, and affordable — and ensures that you keep 100% of the fare (minus Stripe processing fees).

Drivers on OMNI are fully independent, and just like a private chauffeur or small business owner, they are responsible for managing their own insurance coverage.

What Happens if There’s an Accident?

Drivers using OMNI are expected to:

  • Maintain an active personal or commercial auto insurance policy.

  • Confirm with their insurer that rides-for-hire activity is covered.

  • Consider adding rideshare endorsements or hybrid coverage.

If there’s an incident during a ride, the passenger would be covered by the driver’s policy — just like they would in a professionally hired private car or vehicle-for-hire service.

How Big Platforms Use Insurance as a Justification

Many large platforms charge additional fees to both drivers and passengers, citing insurance costs. But those costs are often bundled with corporate fees, marketing expenses, and other overhead. Drivers may only receive a fraction of what the passenger actually pays, and riders still face high fares.

With OMNI:

  • There are no hidden platform fees.

  • Drivers keep what they earn.

  • Passengers benefit from transparent pricing and direct driver support.

How to Be Ready to Drive with OMNI

If you already have access to the OMNI Driver App:

  1. Go online and stay active.

  2. Connect your Stripe account to receive instant payouts.

  3. Share the OMNI Rider app with your network to build a customer base.

If you're not activated yet:

  1. Complete your background check.

  2. Submit any missing documents in the app.

  3. Link your Stripe account.

  4. Start sharing OMNI Rider with passengers who are open to alternatives.

OMNI Respects Drivers

We don’t pressure you to go online, require constant selfie checks, or deactivate your account without warning. You decide when to work, and you earn without interference.

At OMNI, we believe drivers deserve transparency, independence, and fair compensation. That’s why we don’t charge hidden fees, and why we don’t offer insurance — because we trust you to manage your business your way.

Drive on your terms. Keep 100%.
